Welcome

I am an ARTIST and ART TEACHER, based in Melbourne, Australia. Creativity is a core part of my life. In my artworks I seek to capture those moments when heaven and earth meet and the soul is refreshed. I see art as a way of bringing beauty into this world and as a tool for ministering to the needs of those around me.
I create representational artworks to sell and am available for commissioned pieces. I teach art classes and individual lessons both online and in-person.

Bio

Art is a gift and one that I have enjoyed throughout my life. Along with that gift came another - a great appreciation for beauty, design and craftsmanship in the world around me. Both gifts have been refined through the years and the process continues. It is a delightful thing when they clasp hands and give birth to expressions of creativity that bless my soul and those around me. It is even more delightful when I sense that heaven itself is pleased with these expressions - when a little more of heaven is brought down to this earth. My pastel drawing 'A Greater Beauty' is framed and ready for sale. I found the elegant frame in Yarra Glen at an antique store. It gives an elegant charm to the work - aided by the red/purple matboard with black and gold inner edging.

After several years of deliberating and putting it in the too hard basket and several months of mind-numbing research and preparation, my website now offers an online store for ordering archival quality prints. Printed locally, in Steels Creek, Victoria, these giclée prints (available in different sizes) can be sent directly to the customer.

I have started with twenty-five images in the store but will be adding many more as soon as time allows.

Many thanks to those who have given advice along the way, including my friend Matt Emerson and James at 'Acme et al' printing.

The rest of my website has been overhauled and updated.

And after all that, I'm looking forward to getting back to making more art! :D

Mr Kingdom's School of Art is entering it's fourth year of classes - catering for adults, children and the homeschool community. Adult classes are held in person (in the Werribee/Hoppers Crossing area of Melbourne) while children's classes are held online in most cases. Classes focus on developing traditional/representational painting and drawing skills. Details are currently being worked out regarding dates and times for the year ahead but I can say that a new Saturday morning class for adults will be starting up soon. I've been working on a pastel drawing inspired by John William Waterhouse's oil painting 'Soul of a Rose'. Still a way to go but I like where it's heading :)

I found this sweet little watercolour painting that I'd started last year and thought it worthy of completion. It should be fun getting this one framed!

My acrylic painting 'Giverny Reflections' is home from the framers and safe inside after a brief photo-shoot in my backyard.

This was a challenging piece to frame with so many options for colours to go with. In the end, the pastel blue, pink and yellow combination with a natural finish frame provided a calm but joyful window to view the scene through that was inspired by one of Monet's famous Japanese bridge paintings.

The Empire strikes back! On Friday, my friend Payman Kooshi, a very talented furniture upholsterer, dropped off this delightful blue-velvet victorian armchair. A few years ago he reupholstered my great, great grandparents' chair (in red velvet) which turned out so well and is actually comfortable to sit on! I had bought the blue chair in Olinda at Dr Quirky's Emporium for $60. It was covered in a pale green fabric which looked reasonable but the chair was uncomfortable to sit on and the woodwork needed tightening. What a stunning transformation with the addition of the blue velvet! The blue and the red combination is so fitting for my decorating style that draws heavily from British influences. 'Orange Poppy' has been framed! It was a challenge to find the right combination but we got there in the end thanks to the guidance of @framesnow . We chose a deep, warm blue/grey for the main matboard with a hint of light copper shimmering underneath - tying the frame and poppy together. 'Orange Poppy' is a watercolour on A4 paper. The frame measures approx. 38 x 48 cm.

'With Wings as Eagles' is complete! This oil painting measures 90 x 60 cm (stretched canvas) and features the South African 'Crowned Eagle'. Many thanks to Serval Paul Photography for the photo of the eagle that I worked from. I added in a dramatic sky to help capture the overall feel that I wanted in this work.

Every now and then I feel inspired to do an artwork of a more spiritual nature and this is one such work. It is inspired by a passage from the book of Isaiah, chapter 40:27-31, which reads:

Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God? Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: but they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

I created this artwork as an encouragement to myself - a reminder that when I wait on God, when I lean on Him, look to Him and depend on Him, I will know a strength that is not my own and be raised up when I would otherwise fall.

Despite creating this artwork for my own encouragement, it will be available for sale.

'Pascal' is back from the framers and looking very pleased with his 'Tangled' inspired frame. It took a while to choose the colours for the matboards for this colour pencil drawing but I love the result. The framer and I looked at the movie poster for inspiration.
